Digital Lock

The digital lock is an extremely safe form of keyless security for a door, cabinet, or other object.

Many people have had the experience of forgetting or losing their keys and being locked out of their property. This can be frustrating and losing keys generally means changing the locks to ensure security. However if you want to avoid these problems a keyless entry system is an option to think about and a digital lock is an example of this.

A digital lock tends to come in two main types these being mechanical push button locks and electronic keypad locks. The mechanical push button type comes in a variety of styles and can typically have a vertical column of four buttons, five buttons in a circle or ten numbered buttons. To activate the lock the buttons have to be pressed in the correct sequence. Electronic keypad locks have a keypad similar to an ATM and a four to eight number pin code is entered to unlock it.

A digital lock has a number of positive qualities to offer in comparison to a lock which uses a key. With no key to lose, this worry is removed and it will reduce the chances of being locked out. If you suspect that your code or pin number is compromised you do not have the expense of changing the locks and all that is required is to change the code to reset the lock. This is a fairly simple task to do on most push button and keypad locks.

A digital lock can also be a benefit for commercial buildings where there are many people coming in and out on a regular basis. Getting keys cut for a lot of people can be an expensive and relatively impractical thing to do, whereas issuing a code or pin number costs nothing and is relatively simple. As well as entry/exit doors, digital locks can also be used for security on a cabinet or a drawer where valuable materials are being stored. They are simple to install and ensure that access is only available to this with the code.

If you are considering installing a digital keyless lock they are available for purchase from a number of locations. Home improvement stores can be good places to look and should have a selection available to choose from. Most neighborhoods will have locksmith stores and a local directory should point you in the direction of these. Online is also an excellent place to search and there are a number of specialist retailers that have keyless locks for sale. Some of these include the Lock Depot and Keyless Entry Locks.

Depending on the type of digital lock you need these can be relatively affordable with some being available for less than $100. The Lock Depot has a number of Codelocks digital cabinet locks available for around $59. If you are looking for a property entry/exit lock, these will tend to be more expensive. Locks tend to be low, medium or heavy duty with the low duty tending to be the most affordable. A Codelocks CL290 push button lock, for example, costs around $160 to purchase and features two code plates which allow coded entrance and exit of a door. Heavier duty locks will tend to be more expensive with costs of around $500 or greater not being unusual.

If you want the convenience that keyless entry provides then a digital lock is an option to consider. Whether you select a mechanical push button or an electronic keypad lock they are simple to use and remove the worry of forgetting or losing keys.
